This Objective focuses on supporting institutional development and learning in designing and implementing PES models and deals throughout the regions in which the Communities, Conservation and Markets Program partners work. The Katoomba Ecosystem Services Incubator will facilitate technical, financial and market assistance to projects that deliver on conservation goals while directly benefiting various stakeholder groups.
The project 'incubator' approach will create additional, viable and replicable models of PES transactions. Exchanges and support will be provided to project developers participating in the portfolio of the Incubator during the design phase to operationalize their ecosystem services transactions.
Activities under this Objective include:
- providing technical and business management assistance to project developers, including best practices around ecosystem service quantification and monitoring methodologies
- developing transactions based on PES commodities (ecosystem services of landscape-level management, forestry carbon, soil carbon, biodiversity, water quality and quantity, bundled services)
- packaging PES projects into a portfolio, and testing approaches to aggregate ecosystem service sellers
- attracting investors and financial entities as buyers for PES projects and portfolios
